Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to manage hazards associated with plant and to comply with WHS/OHS legislation. Topics include:

  • Complying with WHS/OHS legislation
  • Organisational policies, procedures, processes and systems incorporating the management of hazards associated with plant
  • Identification of hazards
  • Risk assessment of hazards
  • Controlling of hazards
  • Requirements for buying and selling plant items
  • Registration, licencing and certification requirements

Trainees will be assessed using a short-answer written test, case studies, and the completion of actual plant risk assessments.

Upon completion of this course, trainees will have the skills and knowledge required to:

  • Comply with WHS/OHS legislation
  • Identify, assess, control and manage plant hazards
  • Comply with registration, licencing and certification requirements

Once competence is achieved, trainees will receive a Statement of Attainment

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Trainees need to be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to work by themselves and as part of a team, exercising judgement in the selection of equipment, services or contingency plans. Trainees must be able to utilise workplace documentation without the guidance of another person.

Health Note
The training and assessment may involve working with heavy machinery, bending, crawling and light to medium lifting.
